The online home for writer, editor, project manager and publishing consultant Mark Brend.
I manage communications and publications projects, either on my own or as part of a team. Here are three examples:
I created and implemented an external communications strategy for the merger of two learning disabilities membership organisations, Housing Options and The Association for Supported Living, forming The Housing and Support Alliance. This involved working in partnership with the Chief Executive of The Housing and Support Alliance. I secured media coverage in The Guardian, Third Sector, Civil Society and Learning Disabilities Today.
There Is An Alternative was a 2011 campaign by the Association for Supported Living, which argued against institutional services for people with learning disabilities. I was responsible for all the campaign’s communications, including press releases, several media articles, a letter sent to every MP, and a report.
Boundless – Connecting Artists was an exhibition that ran in London and Bristol in 2008/2009, featuring the work of artists with learning disabilities. I was one of a small management team, responsible for all the exhibition’s editorial and press, including placing news stories and features, and writing ad copy, press releases, biographies of artists, and exhibition display boards.
I placed features and/or news items in the arts press (including Art & Music and Art of England), and arranged for The Guardian to publish an online gallery of the exhibition, which you can see here.
